Sand Springs Senior Portrait - Jamil Gotcher Photography

Shot another class of 2016 Tulsa area senior girl who loves fashion and also is a professional model! Grace is not a new client for me, we have worked together before, so it was the ultimate compliment that she wanted me to be her senior portrait photographer! She has worked with several other photographers in Tulsa but chose me to shoot her senior pictures and model portfolio images. My daughter Jade who is also a professional fashion model and stylist provided some wardrobe for the shoot. My Dad, John Shoemaker, who is a very established Tulsa photographer assisted me on this photoshoot. Sometimes I'm his assistant and sometimes he's my assistant.

Grace was ecstatic about her pictures when she viewed them. She said her headshot was "perfect" and she wants it to be one of the 4 wallet size photos she passes out to friends AND she also wants the same image enlarged for her professional model portfolio. There really could not be a greater compliment to me than a professional fashion model ordering an image for her model portfolio created by me and my team from her senior portrait session. This is why I'm shooting senior portraits, because senior portraits today are like fashion photoshoots. As a former high fashion model I'm able to utilize my fashion and modeling background. I also utilize my Dad's expertise as a Master Photographer PPA. To complete our team we have my daughter Jade who is a professional model, wardrobe stylist and makeup artist. 

Because we never want to get into a rut with our photography of shooting the same locations, Dad and I scouted our beautiful city, downtown Tulsa, for new locations. It's also very important to know which locations are better for the morning and which are better for the afternoon because of the light. Location scouting was lots of fun especially when I got to splash my feet in the waterfall! It takes time to location scout but the value it adds to our senior portrait photography and for our clients is well worth it. We've already done another senior portrait since we shot Grace's senior portraits and are clients are loving the fun waterfall shot. Our photoshoots are a fun experience for the high school senior and their family. We also watch their hair and clothing just like when we shoot fashion campaigns, so our high school seniors really do get doted on like a fashion modeling photoshoot experience. Something we also have is a changing tent so they can change into many different outfits! 

Tulsa Senior Portrait Photography - Fashion Session

This Tulsa senior portrait session is for the girl or guy who is really into fashion! This is what makes our senior portrait sessions unique. I'm the only professional photographer in this area who was a high fashion professional model who modeled in Paris and Milan. I'm also currently a published fashion photographer. And my daughter, Jade who is the stylist and makeup artist for my shoots is currently a high fashion model who has modeled at New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week. We absolutely love being able to utilize our modeling and fashion industry experience to pose our subjects in the most flattering way to their figure and their face. And to bring you the experience of a real fashion photoshoot.

That's why our senior portraits are unique. We learned from being in the real fashion industry and utilize all we know to make your senior pictures become the envy of all your friends. We also believe everyone has beauty but it just needs to be brought out by fashion industry professionals with the right makeup, hair and clothing. This is why the images in fashion magazines look so amazing! They are not following what other senior portrait photographers are doing which is what I see other photographers doing copying the wrong people in my opinion. I think about the colors the senior is wearing when I select the background. I like everything to coordinate. That's why we moved from the rooftop location downtown to this Tulsa midtown area with the Spring flowers.

Tulsa, Oklahoma Senior Pictures aren't what they used to be. High School Seniors want their photos to look like a fashion photoshoot or like an album cover for a music artist. At Portraits by Jamil, we can even supply a professional makeup artist/hair stylist who also works for us on our fashion advertisement photoshoots for Tulsa businesses. As a former high fashion model I will instruct the senior how to move in front of the camera so they have lots of poses to choose from. I don't shoot and shoot and shoot and just hope to get a good shot, I know I'm getting a good shot, because I took the time to compose the shot. A portrait session without much direction from the photographer is the way amateur photographers work because they lack the experience and confidence with directing people on photoshoots. High School Seniors aren't professional models so they will need to be directed. I know how to photograph people in a way that is very flattering to their face and their figures because this is something I learned from my own modeling career. Also posing doesn't mean they look stiff, when we direct them how they should stand or move, our goal is getting them to look natural and confident. 

Great expressions in photos don't just happen either. I'm always watching their face and making sure to capture many different wonderful expressions. Everything can look great, cool outfit, stylish accessories, beautiful hair, nice pose, beautiful background, beautiful light but a scared or stiff expression ruins the shot. Just because a photographer can take a beautiful sunset photo or still life doesn't mean they are good at photographing people. Photographing people is a different skill set.
